Serious Considerations:

For Last Letter Go Here

06/30/10  There really has been little for the Mountain Observer to contribute here lately; the country just continues to unwind.  Hard top down fascism ascendant; freedom under vicious multiple attacks.  The world economy, under the absence of leadership by the United States, is in a direct nose dive straight down under full power.  If you don’t believe me, remember my words here in 2011. Truly nasty days lay ahead.  It is those who are attacking us from within who pose the greatest threat as they enable those from without on everything from the dollar to social, cultural and political issues. As things now stand, our country cannot survive the direction in which we are headed; indeed we are already the walking dead.  Whatever the election results are this fall, with the apparently happiest Conservative trending result, it will take decades to push aside the rubbish already accumulated over previous decades.  Obama is only among the flotsam and jetsam of long accumulated Progressive pollution formally launched off in its worldly American manifestation in 1910 by none other than Theodore Roosevelt.  It is a long story, and here we are today witnessing, so far, only the beginning of the crash landing of narcisstic and hubristic egotism run amok.

A new Spring will come for those who understand.  I have sensed the possibility of such a scenario for years, except that I never imagined the process could even begin during my lifetime. I consider myself Blessed, along with thousands, perhaps millions, of true Americans and Christians everywhere as we watch in awe and wonder.

Personally, there is an upside to all this. As for the country’s economic woes, as an American, I simply refuse to participate.  My wife and I are starting up a new business from scratch, and we will succeed, because we are both Americans in the originalist sense of the word.  Meanwhile we both pray for the soul of the nation, under vicious attack from without and within, and look for guidance and leadership from above. JES

06/06/10  If Helen Thomas had any class, she would simply and gracefully retire.  But, of course, she has no class, or she would never have condemned Jews, and Israel, as she did.  This is not a small and insignificant incident, but an honest marker on the mindset of the Left of which Thomas has always been a part.  The truth is that Helen Thomas, and all those who worship her, are disgusting people.  Now who, really, will be to blame for the war that is about to come?  The time is long since past due when American Liberals should have looked at themselves in the mirror.   I pray for Israel.  JES

05/27/10  New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver apparently is proposing to New York Governor David Paterson the complete and final destruction of the State of New York.  At hand is the idea of a ”millionaires” tax intended to extract an extra billion dollars, or so, from the estimated 80 million New Yorkers reporting incomes of over a million dollars a year.  This would involve an additional 11% rate boost.  The highest 1% are already shouldering 36% of the state’s taxes.  In addition, moving to neighboring states, or even Florida, will not be allowed as a dodge, however not living or working in New York may be a way out.  The last one to leave, please turn off the lights, if they are still working.  Democrats are just so skilled at job, and tax revenue, creation; I am stunned at their insight into human behavior.  Maybe someday I can learn to be that smart.   JES

05/24/10   Rasmussen on Obama: daily tracking: Today- the nation’s voters, overall, 25% strongly approve, 43% strongly disapprove of Obama’s performance in general.  Furthermore, 63% of voters nationally seek repeal of ObamaCare. JES
.

05/20/10  Perhaps Baraka Hussein Obama should arrange for free beers in the White House rose garden with Mexico's President Felipe Calderon and Maricopa County's Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer could moderate, and incidentally ask on what basis the President of Mexico is instructing anyone in the United States on matters of sovereign concern to American citizens. We already know Obama’s reasons for indulging Calderon; cheap votes and the consolidation of his Statist agenda.  Anyway, such a meeting would be revealing, and amusing.  JES
.

05/17/10  The United States and Iran.  The time is long since past due for the United States to stop cow-towing and get serious.  It’s time for the United States Air Force to go to work.  Every person around the world who is serious about peace knows this, and has known this for some time. Those who think otherwise are either dupes, brainless or charlatans.   Let the bombers roll.  JES

05/14/10  New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, keep right on truckin; your doing fine.  Take no prisoners.  JES

05/13/10  It is a characteristic of a healthy free market economy that individual enterprises continue to improve their productivity.  As the same number of people develop ways to produce more product, at greater market value, their wealth increases, and it is in turn distributed throughout the economy generating more jobs and market opportunity for others.  However, when producers are suddenly confronted with the economic uncertainty implicit from evident negative upcoming government tax and regulatory policy, legal liability and a distorted credit climate, great caution will ensue.  At the most extreme, the very survival of the enterprise could be at stake. The immediate problem is likely to be the matter of cash flow if the dollars coming in don’t keep up with the dollars going out.  For most businesses, labor is the biggest expense, and personnel cuts are unavoidable.  Those left need to do more to hold on to what is left.  Business activity in balance with surviving resources is a minimal objective; however the ownership, looking ahead at an uncertain political climate may reasonably anticipate the worst, and make further cuts.  One might call this defensive productivity enhancement, a perceived necessity in the short run but possibly damaging in the long run.  This is productivity enhancement produced by fear of the future, not the enhancement of wealth.  It is reasonable to assume that many of the currently unemployed are so for these reasons.  It is a sign of the times that it is necessary to explain these things to anyone.  JES

05/09/10  Meeting in emergency session this weekend, the European Union finance ministers propose to create a $650 billion money pot to reassure the markets that any future potential sovereign debt crises, such as is now happening in Greece, can be pro-actively managed. Where this money pot is coming from is not clear to this observer, and again, this fandango smacks of an extreme international “credit card” scam, only to buy time and extending the moral hazard of faux monetary resolution of a real problem, yet to be addressed.  Can the “too big to fail” argument applied to sovereign debt continue indefinitely?  I think not, and all the socialist schemes one might imagine cannot stop the wall of water coming down the mountain.  Extending debt obligations and credit lines does not pay the bills, and only misleads those who take from others so as to continue living beyond their means.  Hopefully, the markets will not be sufficiently reassured, and the collapse of false castles and free market re-structuring will proceed apace; long overdue.  It is not a matter of whether, but when.  JES
.

05/05/10  British Petroleum.  For years this oil giant has played the “Responsible” Environmental card, and paid huge bribes to DC politicians.  Reportedly, Baraka Hussein Obama the Magnificent has been the largest individual recipient, at over $77,000, in the last 20 years.  BP, last year alone, reportedly through lobbyists, spent $15.9 million to influence policy among the DC empowered; expensive protection money indeed. We need to look further into charges that certain regulations designed to govern drilling practices in the Gulf were relaxed for BP, really, who did what to who when in these matters.  Stay tuned.  JES
.

05/05/10  Greece.  Back on 02/16 I wrote here that one should keep an eye on Greece.  As predicted, the Eurozone is teetering on the edge of collapse; the euro and the dollar now lean on each other like a pair of drunks standing in a cesspool.  All this as American national security resources are praised for catching the purps after the fact that by raw luck the facts didn’t happen.  At some point that luck will run out, and at some point, the two drunks will find no one left to bail them out, even New York State.  JES
.

05/03/10   Republicans, and some “conservatives”, are being snookered by Obama’s “Race to the Top” education “reform” initiatives.  In classic Saul Alinski fashion, “Race to the Top” has nothing to do with education “reform” and everything to do with extending federal control over K-12 public education.  Republicans, and some “conservatives”, wake up!  Of course the national problem of teacher union cartelization of public education needs to be addressed, but this is not the way to do it.  Go straight after the unions, not the teachers, many of who are dragooned into the unions against their will.  As for any needed attention to teacher standards, again, it is the unions that are the real problem.  And notice that with all this, Obama still rejects vouchers, which are the real fix to the issues he is pretending to fix.  My friends, “Race to the Top” is nothing but a Trojan horse, in true Alinski style, to still further steal away local, and parental, responsibility for the education of our children and the authority, under local control, of our public school systems.  Obama has hung out the bait of “teacher accountability”, and Republicans, have risen to take the hook.  You folks really need to smarten up.  JES
.

05/01/10  Communists this day continue to huff and puff about the world, many, this year, jumping on board the hate Arizona band wagon.  Arizona’s only mistake with its immigration reform legislation is that it should have been passed back in 1987, the year after Teddy the swimmer Kennedy pushed through the first version of amnesty with the qualification that it would be a onetime event and henceforth immigration law would be obeyed and the border would be secure.  That was in 1986. Reagan was snookered.  JES
.

04/30/10  Is it possible, just possible, that passage of immigration reform in Arizona, with subsequent national polling approval ratings at 70%, just might be the beginning of the long march back to national sanity and worthiness?  After decades of disappointment, this observer remains skeptical, but watchful.  Washington and the Continental Army crossing the Delaware?  It happened once.  The battle of Midway Island?  It happened once.  The cultural and political hell of the Twentieth Century?  That happened too, and the question before us is how many real Americans are now left standing?  If national recovery is to happen, it will be a very long and hard slug back.  I pray for the soul of this nation.  JES

04/29/10   So the Arizona matter leads naturally into another discussion, which is the matter of Progressivism, and material “progress” too frequently co-joined. Material “progress” (most people know this if they are honest with themselves) too frequently leads to physical softness.  Less frequently acknowledged is that it also leads to softness in the head, fertilizing a continuing climate conducive to Progressivism and the elevation of Self.  If through our own mental capacities we can accomplish material “progress” such as to ease our physical discomforts and enhance our material pleasures, then, consciously and unconsciously, we tend to be lured away from the need to think about certain life challenges that remain in the background.  We are lured by the Progressive arguments of our own self importance, and perhaps even infallibility. Something seems to be missing here; just what could that be?  The more intelligent among you know the answer.

However, let us take a harder look at the material side of this dynamic.  To illustrate by way of example, take the matter of the tractor replacing draft animals as tools of pulling plows.  A good idea, of course; a direct linkage to the reduction of poverty and the enhancement of a “better life”.  However, while the draft animal most likely can be fed off local resources, the tractor requires fuel, not likely originating locally.  You can see where I am going with this; I will spare you a huge book length narrative.  My point here has to do with the unfolding moral hazards of intellectually separating the farmer from the up-stream consequences of his need and demand for tractor fuel.  In America, the working pretext is that free-market forces will respond as necessary to free-market demand, except that this is not necessarily so.  Enter the politicians, most frequently elected by too many, at all economic levels, encouraged to raid their neighbor’s pockets.  The distant consequences of political meddling facilitate both the moral, and intellectual breakdown, and perceived personal interest, in the farmer’s mind. The moral dimension enters in as the farmer imagines his own insulation from the political theft by politicians of other people’s earnings, for their own priority of re-election, the public, including the farmer, be dammed. Within this climate the politician, primarily concerned with his own political future, and the financial opportunities it affords, is encouraged to promote a cartelization of public functions; what amounts to statist control of the unruly.  So it is that the Progressive agenda continues to unfold, and vulnerable illegals are useful pawns in the thirst for political support.  American freedom is the target; it gets in the way, and our friend the farmer eventually discovers this, perhaps too late.  What the politicians fear most is a public that has figured this out.  JES
.

04/29/10   Regarding the recently enacted Arizona immigration law; it might be the first real grass roots opening shot at the cascading national problem of illegal voters’ out-of-control.  The first real effective right-wing response to ACORN in its various ongoing manifestations; yes, and in spite of what you may read in the MSM, ACORN in its various ongoing manifestations will continue to function in the cracks and crevasses of American culture like termites and rats in a dump.   So what has happened in Arizona is very welcome indeed, except to the Left, and ruling Liberal Elites, in this sense, as in so many, a distinction without a difference.  I look forward to other states picking up the cudgel.  JES
.

04/26/10  Illegal is illegal.  Hurray for Arizona; long overdue. The failure to act sooner only accelerated growth of the moral hazard of tolerating indifference to American sovereignty and the law; hence the current screams and hand wringing by some.  A sorting out process is going on.  So sorry; no tikee no washee. This is the United States of America, not Venezuela, or Kenya. Those who tolerate and even encourage the actual invasion of this country are not Americans.  The constitution does speak to this issue.  JES
,

04/26/10  It was inevitable, and long predicted by this observer.  The political divide in this country will continue to spread, and evermore assume racial as well as class dimensions.  The Left, in full Saul Alinsky mode, guarantees it, while the GOP, too long in the east coast mode of do-gooderism coupled with self-satisfaction with the decades long comforts of wallowing in the minority role, virtually guarantees eventual disaster for the country as a whole.  Moving towards this fall’s elections, watch Obama, and most Democrats, play the Race Card.  And watch too many in the GOP play the accommodation card.  The GOP needs to be turned inside out and upside down.  And no, the consequence of any significant third party movement will be to permanently hand matters over to the Left.  In politics, historically for thousands of years, democratic forums disintegrate into mobocracy, in our case as witnessed by the collapse of the Republic.  Tenth Amendment anyone?  So far, at least, the current civil war is being fought with words, not guns; it remains to be seen where this will all wind up.   JES

04/15/10  Tax Day 2010.  So what do all you zombies think about this?  Still all excited about the “CHANGE” you voted for in 2008 ?  You forgot to ask about what changes were intended. Well by now it should be clear, except to the most simple trilobite, and if you still don’t get it, or in fact do support the direction in which these unfolding “CHANGEs” are occurring, then you are a truly hopeless glob of humanity.  You deserve every disaster that is yet about to unfold before you; you ain’t seen nothing yet.  JES

04/13/10  It is with a heavy heart that I must say that Sarah Palin has gotten herself into a lot of trouble with the Mountain Observer.  Sarah, while I understand your sense of gratitude towards John McCain as expressed by you in your support of him in his current effort towards re-election as a Senator, I would have preferred that your support to have been somewhat more nominal.  However, that is really not my problem now.  Where you have now crossed a big line is in your support of Michael Steele.  Sarah, that doesn’t work.  What in the world are you thinking?  Perhaps certain critics are right; your political and policy judgement isn’t quite there yet.  JES

04/02/10   "If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."  Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican, Mt. Dora, FL.  I see that aside from Marco Rubio, there is at least one more actual Republican in Florida.  Yes, Doctors do have First Amendment rights.  JES

04/02/10  The GOP has a huge credibility problem with much of its natural conservative  base, at all levels, including myself.  High on the list, for myself, is the existence of Michael Steele as national Chairman.  Both his personal behavior and managerial judgement are unacceptable.  His early replacement, among other items, is a necessary condition of my direct support of the party, and that of hundreds of thousands of others as well.  I am quite sure of this assessment of the situation.   JES
.

04/01/10  Resistance to the Sovietization of America is the only logical result of the Leftwing program of Obamification, a synonym, currently in progress.  There can be no mutual reconciliation of these Leftwing perspectives with Conservative defense of traditional American values.   We are only at the leading edge of this conflict; it will only build.  http://www.billboardsagainstobama.com/ .
