SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES:  "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."                 (It's not about hunting ducks)

United States under Attack:

On September 11, 2001 at approximately 08:48 EST the United States was attacked by foreign terrorists.  New York City and Washington D.C. are war zones.  We must determine culpability and we must strike back with full force.  The time has passed when we can continue to entertain new age theories of victimology on behalf of Palestinians or any other self-absorbed pretenders to the wealth and constitutional protections of the United States.  Either you are an American citizen and a patriot or you are not.  Furthermore, it is time to put the cards on the table and not equivocate about the fact that those of an Islamic persuasion in particular, as individuals, need to confront themselves as to their real loyalties and priorities.  It needs to be said that while Muslims of a peaceful persuasion, and legally present, are as welcome as any immigrant group, it remains a pertinent fact that they are not part of traditional American culture.  Muslims in America, as, shall we say, cultural guests, need to clarify their intentions and Americans need to muster their inherent strength to judge people on an individual basis, admittedly a challenge under the circumstances.

America has been attacked and America is at war.  Individuals cannot attack this country physically or rhetorically and at the same time expect the protection, real or imagined, of American law and the Constitution.  The time is here for some sorting out.

The American people must realize that we have enemies; people who hate us, our system and our American way of life.  The American people must inquire into the largest collapse of intelligence capability in our history. It is time to get our heads on straight.  In the event of a failure of resolve to strike back with full and effective force, we will only invite escalation and the invitation of increased terrorist activity against us, and we will only have seen the beginning. Major urban areas are completely vulnerable to chemical and biological attacks, corruption of their water systems and the uncontrolled contents of random shipping containers.  It would seem that, for starters, Afghanistan needs to be turned into a gravel pit, and it is not necessary to hide under the skirts of an international coalition to do it.  NATO is irrelevant.  A couple of bi-lateral agreements will suffice.

President Bush's statement to the nation included the critical point that we will hold responsible not only the perpetrators but also those who harbored them. I hope he means it.  We will witness the Arab world working furiously to serve up a sacrificial fish while at the same time working with equal fervor to ensure that equally culpable parties are exempted. These people are snakes and jackals.  We must not allow ourselves to be fooled by any of this, and our response must be comprehensive.  George W., you cannot wimp out like your father did.

This past week we witnessed an American disaster.  Personally I am not shocked, but very sad.  There are those of us who have consistently suggested that something like this was not only possible, but likely.  I am very sad for the victims, and even sadder still to understand that in a properly ordered America it did not have to happen had the nation been "on its toes".  Let us see to it that it doesn't happen again.  A natural conservative skepticism of human nature and behavior is in order.

Ad Nausium

-On 09/11/01 we paid the price of neglect and abuse of our national intelligence gathering services that has been ongoing at least since the collapse of the Soviet Union.  The need for national security in a world of hostile, jealous and dangerous thugs is real.  The touchy feely "90's as a decade of self deceit has cost us dearly.

-The time is long over-due when we should lift restrictions on the assassination of foreign leaders and terrorists, and it is time for Liberals to shut up about "moral equivalency".

-The time is right for a comprehensive examination of our immigration laws and policies.  It is time to get serious about policing the borders and enforcing the law. We have a serious security problem at all of our borders.

- The time is now to approve and accelerate domestic energy production.  Domestic communists in             environmental clothing need to be sent packing.

-Looking forward it is critical that the cost impact of this newly recognized military threat must be treated properly by conservatives.  It will cost money and in    short order the Democrats will demagogue the recent tax cut and demand a reversal.   Don't fall for it.  The new added defense costs need to be carved out of current domestic spending where there is loads of fat.  The currently proposed overall budget allowing a 4% increase, education sadly excepted, must be held.  Otherwise we will witness a repeat of the 80's during which R.R. was blamed for blowing the budget on defense when the real problem was a failure to restrain domestic spending by congressional Democrats.  We do not need to repeat that fraud.  In fact, in spite of the current security issue, I would argue that we should proceed with additional tax cuts, specifically capital gains.  This is what has to happen anyway to kick-start the economy.  George W., keep your veto pen handy and make the Democrats explain why they think we the people are too stupid to manage our own affair.

-As he plans his retirement, God bless Jesse Helms, a conservative giant, a singular personality, and, to myself, a personal hero.  To those who will follow us, don't listen to the lies about him. The truth should be an inspiration.

- Reportedly the U.S. Marines have knuckled under to a demand by their female members who insist on the option to wear lipstick when in combat fatigues. I am absolutely out of touch.  "Chesty" Puller, where are you?  We no longer have time for this sort of nonsense.

    Bush Score Card:

- Dignity has been restored to the White House and the Office of the Presidency.  Not a trivial matter, but the Office is now being tested by an equally important need for resolve.

-The President quite properly rejected participation in the so-called conference on racism and slavery reparations in Durban, South Africa.  Africa today is itself a racist, economic, moral and political mess and needs to deal with its own affairs.  I have zero tolerance with this slimy bunch.  As for Arabs going after Israelis for racism, this too is totally absurd.   I am sick and tired of American Statist Liberals working to advance the notion of "moral equivalency".  It's time to cut this crap.  As the events of the past week in both New York and Washington D.C. make abundantly clear, it is time for Statist Liberals in both the United States and Israel to shut up, go sit in the corner and re-think the premise of their faith in big government regulation and protection as a shield against the dangers of life. Assuming the best of intentions, government people do not and cannot guarantee safety.  The responsibility remains our own, as individuals.

- Missile defense. The DOD is moving forward with initial site preparation work in Alaska.

- Reversing Kyoto. My greatest fear is that 43 will begin to reverse himself in the name of "compassionate" conservatism.

-ANWR drilling. The place is such a paradise that maybe we could get T. Daschle to retire and relocate himself up there to watch the caribou. Actually what we need to do is to start drilling ASAP so as to increase the number of healthy caribou. Our experience in Prudhoe Bay shows us that is what will actually happen if we drill.

- Social Security Reform Commission.  The demagoguery that is surrounding this bi-partisan commission is already so thick that I'm prepared to suggest that we do nothing.  The commission's purpose and efforts are      laudable.   However, like most "reform" efforts, if           anything of substance emerges from Congress as legislation, the "cure" is likely to be worse than the "disease".    Congress has that track record.    Certainly the initiative to correct a real problem is properly intended, but the fundamental problem is the welfare state mentality that dominates contemporary American culture.

There are those of us who believe that in the long haul the only recourse eventually is a total collapse.  Real Americans will sort themselves out and survive just fine.  Those currently under 40 will have the most difficult time, and it is to those generations that these letters are directed.  The "boomers", who commune with Eleanor Roosevelt, deserve what they won't get.  I'm a product of the "Silent Generation" and this old fart prefers to rely on God and myself.

-Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.  The bottom line is that amnesty for illegals is a terrible idea on several levels.  It sends the wrong signal concerning respect for the law to everyone concerned.  Amnesty will accelerate the logic of further repeat performances.  The fact that illegals fill an economic role at the unskilled level is true but that is only so because certain categories of unskilled American labor have been coddled and spoiled for years by collectivist Liberals eager to relieve their guilt.  In any event this cannot be used to excuse contempt of the law.
