Staff, Baraka Hussein Obama, the messiah, President of the world and

Emanuel, an old OJ Billyboy apparatchik, announces that the "government
has been asleep at the switch" on the economy. Conservatives wish this
was
true. The Bush Administration's activism has been highly
counter-productive to
a necessary free market correction of a super business cycle bust,
itself largely
propelled by accumulated government meddling. No, Baraka Hussein Obama,
we very
badly need the government to go to sleep at the switch and just get the
hell
out of the way. We very much look forward to January 21, 2009, when
true
disaster will ensue. I think Conservatives are beginning to see the
outlines of

Predictably, the global
warming scare mongers, led by AlGore, are now once again running around
loose
predicting that the world will end tomorrow, or nearly so. Covered many
times
previously in these letters, the issue has nothing to do with actual
science,
or the "environment" but is rather a handy tool to promote panic for
the purpose of frightening the masses into the arms of Left Wing
Statist
control. However much folks accept the nonsense of man-made global
warming
uncritically, they are either true dupes or willing accomplices of the
Left.
American Leftist indoctrination, aka "education", and the
apparatchiks of Statist socialism won on November 4th, 2008. We have at
least 2
generations piled up unfamiliar with the discipline of thought. The
damage now
coming at us will be horrendous. JES

A handful of Senate
Republicans carry on the fight to keep the UAW out of the taxpayers
wallet.
The UAW attempt to extort and abscond with Federal largess ended
in the
Senate Thursday. Perhaps. President George W. Bush is
pushing to
write them a check from the $700 billion TARP (Troubled Asset Relief
Program)
Bank & mortgage bailout “fund” extracted from a
gullible Congress for other
purposes. GM, Chrysler and Ford management meanwhile have demonstrated
their
total incompetence, and sense of self respect, by attempting to rule
out
bankruptcy, which they will now have to be forced into sooner or later.
For the
sake of what's left of this rust belt industry, the sooner the better.
As for
President George W. Bush's efforts here, I am ashamed as a
Republican. I
stand for free markets, not economic fascism. JES

Rod R.
Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff, John Harris, both Chicago
boys, were
arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges. The
implications
for Obama remain to be sorted out, however I am reminded of Brier
Rabbit and
the Tar Baby. You can probably catch the unfolding details in the
mainstream
news, as this story about corruption among Democrats will be too juicy
for them
to resist or cover up. I sit here and laugh. JES

Emanuel, an old OJ Billyboy apparatchik, apparently on the
advice of
acting White House Chief of Staff, Baraka Hussein Obama, the
messiah,
President of the world and international ward healer, allows it to be
announced
that Eric Holder, engineer in chief of the infamous 2001 Marc Rich
pardon, will
be the nation's new Attorney General. Score another for "CHANGE" as
this "new" Administration digs itself further into the quicksand of
political corruption before even getting into office. Eric Holder, at
the time
Deputy Attorney General, remember your words of advice to OJ
Billyboy upon
his query concerning the proposed pardon of Marc Rich, then hiding
in
Switzerland: "Neutral, leaning toward favorable". Political
corruption on the grandest scale possible. For those of you who say you
care
about such matters, and have forgotten, or never knew, go do some
research. "CHANGE" means heading back to the good old days of
truly putrid politics, until recently only surviving at its
rankest in
Chicago. However, that’s where both Emanuel, always of
Chicago, and Obama,
by way of Kenya, Indonesia and Harvard, both come from. JES

There are a couple of
messages that come out of the terrorism we have witnessed in India this
past
week. The first is that too many countries around the world, since
World War
II, have fallen into the mental habit of dependence on the United
States
for serving as an international policeman. Part of the Bush message,
post
09/11, is that we have a growing international problem, the nature
of
which is fundamentally different from a test of wills between states
confronting each
other with conventional armies. In this particular situation, we
have
three states involved, however lying in the background: India,
Pakistan, and
the proto state of Kashmir. The damage done appears to have been done
by
terrorist forces inspired by Kashmiri complaint, and with
possible links
to IslamicFascists, and actual objectives, yet to be determined.
This
British sub-continent issue is
beyond American ability to supervise in detail, as it should
it
be. Our national interest in the matter is only the management
and
containment of nuclear capability such as may fall into the wrong hands
headed
in our direction. I am not inspired by the prospects for
intelligent
leadership on the matter by the incoming American Administration, which
raises
the second point to be made here. Chinese, Russian and
IslamicFascist
forces around the world stand by panting at the opportunity unfolding
before
them to press advantage upon a new and weak,
ignorant and
feckless American Administration, dubiously credentialed in these sorts
of
matters. We are headed for still more dangerous times. JES

Christmas night, God gave us His Son, by Mary, through the Holy Spirit.
On the
day following Thanksgiving, a traditional American holiday initiated to
recognize the Pilgrim's thanks to God for their good fortunes, the
modern
materialist spree of shopping for Christmas gifts semi-officially
commences,
the Lord nowhere in sight. This year, a shopping mob in Valley Stream,
NY,
crash themselves through the front doors of the local Walmart trampling
to
death an employee, and injuring three others, all in a frenzy to be
first to
grab material items for themselves. Christmas has come to this, He
is a
nuisance and unwanted, and we think so well of ourselves. Merry

they were

Baraka Hussein Obama, the
messiah, President of the world and international ward healer,
announces that
he is going to create thousands of jobs, but that this may take many
years and,
incidentally, require a second term. This tells us several things all
at once.
He does not understand economics and the fact that government does not
create
jobs, but rather destroys them, and that by asking for "lots of time"
he can dodge the bullet of socialist failure by continuing to point to
failures
of the GOP and George W. Bush, some real, some imagined. Our current
market
problems were largely caused by government actions in the first place,
and
ratcheting up the same old "fixes" and bromides will only accelerate
continuing market flabbiness and descent. The inmates are already
running the
asylum. Baraka Hussein Obama, messiah, President of the world and
international
ward healer, the best, the only way, for you to be of any help would be
for you
to get yourself and the whole government the hell out of the way of
free market
entrepreneurs and let America go to work. But of course, this won't
happen;

While the GOP certainly
has its own problems, I find it fascinating to watch the Left at war
with
itself. Watch Hillary Rodham Rodham attempt to move in on Baraka
Hussein Obama,
the messiah, President of the world and international ward
healer. I

Why
does Hillary hang tough? Consider
the following facts:
1.
Until the Democrat
delegates actually vote in Denver, there is no actual nominee.
Well, now, ignoring
the issue of Constitutional eligibility, there is one.
2.
Obama's delegate advantage hangs on
the "super" delegates, and in spite of what any of them may say
before the convention, none of them are legally constrained from
changing their
minds.
This was true, and now irrelevant.
3.
Obama is a "loose cannon",
and every political pro knows it. Many "super" delegates, no doubt,
tremble in fear of the consequences of being labeled as "racists" if
they back off Obama absent what they might consider to be a "nuclear"
failure or revelation on his part or about him. However, something of
the sort
could happen, and Hillary understandably, so far, has chosen to keep
herself
available.
This was, and remains, true. However the deed was done and we
move on to item 4.
4.
Hillary is a fighter, and no doubt
looking forward. In a worst case scenario she might consider any one of
several
possible "deals", including some form of inclusion in an Obama
administration; not to bake cookies, but to raise much mischief in her
own
behalf looking forward. And where exactly are all those missing FBI
files
anyway? You see, there are many possibilities. Stay tuned. JES

Yes,
stay tuned. To begin with, there
is the appointment of IL Rep. Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of
Staff, an
old OJ Billyboy apparatchik. (Notice in the AP photo that
accompanied
this announcement who was giving directions and who was listening).
There has
followed a whole string of folks from the nineties. Now Hillary Rodham
Rodham
herself is in intense negotiations with Obama himself over the post of
Secretary of State, however with the qualification of direct access to
Obama.
(There is a history of difficulty between Hillary and Rahm Emanuel,
some say
reflecting policy difficulties between herself and her husband). What
appears
to be possible here is a sort of general shadow war within the Democrat
Party
to keep Obama "on the tracks". However, the Party has a larger
problem: itself. There is Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and a whole string
of
worn-out Liberals panting to implement New Deal II, not necessarily
consistent
with Obama's internationalist visions, or FDR's nationalist
visions. This
is a Party that is ideologically lost as it stumbles toward a Statism
without
design. And Hillary herself was a student of Saul Alinski, and
not
interested in baking cookies. Great dangers lie ahead. JES

the tall grass in this matter, it will be interesting to see what
happens after
he issues his first executive order, and some party, claiming
significant
injury as a result, challenges his authority to do so. JES

An e-mail to a
friend: Regarding Obama's citizenship. As I understand the
situation,
some piece of paper, possibly an affidavit, was obtained from someone
in
Hawaii, alleging that he was born there. Likely insufficient legally;
not a
genuine certified birth certificate. Even if his birth in Hawaii could
be
determined to be actual, there are questions as to whether or not this
might
have been corrupted by dual citizenship during his time in Indonesia,
then
returning. It all gets quite complex. On top of this, there is alleged
to be a
video of his grandmother in Kenya, speaking in Swahili, saying that she
was
present at his birth there. Bottom line is we need to see a genuine
legal birth
certificate, and he can't, or wont, provide one. I see no
legitimate
excuse for this confusion. JES

We are supposed to be a
nation of laws, under a Constitution originally adopted in 1789.
A
requirement of the Constitution is that Presidents be native/natural
born
citizens. There are legitimate questions being raised as to
whether
Baraka Hussein Obama meets this test. So far he has taken steps
seemingly
designed to proactively deny the public access to those records.
His
handling of the matter has so far only inflamed suspicions of a
"cover-up".
Now
the Mountain Observer does not
claim any direct knowledge of the facts of the situation. What
the
Mountain Observer does know, as a matter of fact, is that Baraka
Hussein Obama
is either a natural born citizen of this country, or he is not. He has
both a
legal and moral obligation to clarify the matter by authorizing public
access
to a valid certified original birth certificate, in addition to the
paper trail
of his goings and comings about the globe, as such documentation is
legally
necessary to confirm both his original and continuing citizenship
as
required to support his candidacy for office. Paying fast and loose
with the
Constitution, a Liberal habit now of many years, is unacceptable. So
far, the
Liberal Mainstream Media, largely in the sack with Baraka Hussein Obama
and in
flagrant violation of its own Constitutional responsibilities, has
failed to
consider the matter. Reportedly, there have been 17 lawsuits
filed around
the nation in pursuit of greater transparency on the issue.
Accordingly, I
provide you here with three randomly selected websites on which
you might
servale the matter for yourself. While it is true that any or all of
these
sites might represent the views of wackos, it is also possible
that they
are on to something. Time will tell. The issue is too
important to

con jobs successfully accomplished by, it seems, virtually everyone in

8 years is that the Bush Administration, and Bush himself, was
Conservative.
From the perspective of the far Left such inanity could be expected.

so.
From the perspective of too many in middle America and the west,it was
hoped
for. However, it was never true. I refuse to climb aboard
the Bash
Bush Express, however in the coming weeks I will be stating some truths
from a
Conservative perspective, the first of which is that "compassionate
conservatism" was always an oxymoran and a fatally flawed attempt to
govern from the middle. For those who haven't noticed, it crash landed
on
November 04, 2008, in the name of another "compassionate
conservative", Senator John McCain. Enough is enough. Real
Conservatives
now demand the real deal, and it won't be found among the Eastern
Elite, of any
stripe. At the moment, patience and some introspective
honesty are

wondered why the government has not yet disclosed the assets it is
acquiring
under the bailout program. It is because they can't; they don't
know what
they are. The bailout program has already done incredible damage to the
free
market pricing system, and absent a free market pricing system, efforts
at
valuation are hopeless. As I have previously suggested, perhaps
Treasury
Secretary Henry Paulson, D-Goldman Sachs, should consider hiring some
of those
old retired Soviet central planners so accomplished at playing the role
of
ex-spurts on this matter. JES

the mechanics of ideology left to right, statist to constitutional and
socialist to free market. I will be doing that shortly, as soon as I

A statement addressed to
the Park County, CO, Republican Committee at our monthly meeting
on this
date:
My
fellow Republicans: My name is Jim
Sohmer, and I am an American citizen, native born.
Under
God, I am an American
Conservative first, and a Republican second.
With
the results of this election, I
believe we have crossed a line in American history into hard Statist
territory
that will prove to be totally at odds with the representative
republican framework
of the founding. The processes of this subversion reach back over
100
years, and the details of that subversion should be familiar to every
informed
Conservative. Tonight we stand on the threshold of Statist
socialism in
every sense of the word, openly determined to destroy the last vestiges
of the
intent and meaning of the founding Constitution, as later amended, not
by
politicians and the courts, but by the Constitution's own specified
processes.
The
legal system, including most
specifically those with prosecutorial responsibility, can no longer
duck the
question, case by case,of the constitutional legitimacy of the laws
they seek
to enforce, for this question will be found to be no longer
hypothetical, but
real. The ancient intellectual, and politically convenient dodge
of
dumping off the matter onto the courts under the color of Marbury v.
Madison,
itself much abused, requires a challenge. Do we live now under a
Constitution, or 5 self appointed pontiffs under robes?
As
a single example of many possible, I
would refer you to the Second Amendment. It can no longer be considered
a
hypothetical possibility that instructions from Washington will be
directed to
our Sheriff to confiscate my guns, not for any wrong doing on my part,
but
simply because my guns have been declared illegal, by the courts,
Second
Amendment be dammed. The DA's office, and the Sheriff, will have
some
decisions to make. Let me make this as clear as I can. Under these
circumstances, should any representative of the federal, state or local
government enter my property to execute such an order of confiscation,
a very
nasty situation will ensue. I am 68 years old, and I am quite
prepared to
go down for my country, as I understand that it once was, if it comes
to that.
The
Republican Party, at every level,
needs to examine itself, and what it is all about going forward. Today,
the GOP
is a mess, and without direction, currently led by coastal compromisers
and
fake conservatives. Rather, I voted for Sarah Palin, and I will
support
only right thinking in this regard for correction of these matters. I
will not
support the virus, which has taken hold of the party, of pandering to
the Left
and selling itself out to socialists, and I would recommend that all of
us
pledge to do the same. Either we decide to stand up against the hell
that is
about to descend upon us, or we lose it all. These statements are

Aid to the auto industry
is really about saving the UAW, and Democrat votes and union
political funding sources. President Bush has attached a
condition
to his cooperation: passage of the negotiated free trade agreement with
Columbia. The Columbian agreement is important as a foreign
policy
measure to counter Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and his expansionist
designs.
However, I'm inclined to give a greater priority to saving our own
domestic
industries, which with regard to the auto industry means real reform,
only
possible with liquidation and rebirth and not government ownership of
the
economy. JES

this, however it says much about our great national political divide

question remains open. If Obama is legitimate in this regard, it is
within his
power to put the issue to rest, and, in fact, it is his obligation,
morally and

The new Statist regime
of Baraka Hussein Obama, the messiah, President of the world and
international
ward healer, has a very powerful tool to deploy against any dissent:
the charge
of "racism", and the fear among dissenters of being called
"racists". This is not a new technique for the suppression of speach
and thought, but crafted and refined through several decades. The
dodge, of
course, is to draw off discussion and consideration of substantive
issues, and
force results typically consistent with a hard Left Statist
agenda. So
now Baraka Hussein Obama, who just happens to be half black, posing as
a
messiah, President of the world and international ward healer, is
really in a
position to crank up the suppression of any dissent to the substance of
the
hard Left Statist agenda. It was through the deployment of this
technique
that Obama secured his nomination in the first place, and his
subsequent
elevation into the clouds. So it is that Baraka Hussein Obama is
a very
dangerous man, and our First Amendment is in great trouble. One
need not
be a rocket scientist to see how the Liberal Mainstream Media was
co-opted and
fell into this trap. It was the guilt of the guilt laden politically
correct
White Liberal elite of both parties that has lead to the result of our
electing
the first presidential product of affirmatiuve action. Often repeated
in these
letters, Baraka Hussein Obama is where he is, not because of any
dispassionate
national consideration of substance, but because he is black.
Furthermore, and
ironically, the actual racists on this plate full of intellectual
scrambled
eggs are Obama himsef and his colleagues. In this country today
black
racism is running out of control, and few, black or white, have
the
courage to call it what it is.
Now
the Mountain Observer recognizes
that, under politically correct rules, this analysis qualifies myself
as a
racist. I simply am unimpressed, and got off that bus years ago. All of
you who
have the courage to engage in meaningful substantive dissent will need
to stop
allowing yourself to be so entangled and cease the habitual
apologies.

Israel has a national
security problem, and they know it. Most Israelis view their situation,
and how
they must handle the matter, very much differently than most
of their
Jewish cousins in the United States. So it is that with the elevation
of the
messiah Baraka Hussein Obama to President of the World, Israel must
recalculate
its venerable security reliance on the United States. Accordingly,
I would
predict a much elevated chance that between now and January 20th there
will be
an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites. Sadly, we can no longer be
counted

American automobile industry begging at the feet of Congress for
another
bailout, with the enthusiastic support of the UAW, at least a co-equal
cause of
their problem. Of course, I say no, the plants aren't going
anywhere. Let
the companies and unions go under. Someone will pick up the pieces at
fair
market value and resume making cars at fair market prices.
However,
Democrats, and their Presidential puppy dogs, now or coming, won't let
that
happen. Too many votes are at stake and the taxpayers are defenseless.
Economic

selects IL Rep. Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff. One wonders
what
Obama's Hamas supporters will think of that. Anyway, Emanuel, for those
who do
not know, is a Left Wing Democrat pit bull, inconsistent with Obama's
call for
"unity", and very consistent with Obama's real agenda of community
re-education camps. And, yes, Baraka Hussein Obama, you are not my
President,
not in a pig's eye. As for Secretary of State, perhaps it will be
Senator
John Francois Kerry, the French looking guy, pretender to the office,
in 2004,
des le roi des Etats Unis, who also served in Vietnam. Real change,

Next, it is fair to note
that virtually all actual Conservatives (in recent years many
pretenders
have accrued like barnacles) are today enraged by John McCain's renewed
attack
on the base that struggled harder than he did on behalf of his own
election
effort. The Left won this election; that is now history. It did
not need
to be. In the end, McCain's fatal slip was to crawl onboard with
the
economic bailout crowd, not even out of "honor" (a term applied to
McCain not out of real honor, but rather, in his later years, out
of self
promotion) but rather out of economic ignorance (his own
confession) and
the pleadings of fake conservatives who run to socialism to be saved
when the
market rules against them. John McCain is no Conservative, many times
previously discussed in these letters. His choice of Gov. Sarah
Palin was
not out of conservative principle (he has none), but rather out of
political
calculation, as he was smart enough to recognize that the Conservative
base of
the party was, in fact, the only chance he had to win this
election. Political reality was that this was a season for
Democrats. It did not even require a Hillary Rodham Rodham to
have won.
However, with everything going against the GOP as it was, I believe
McCain
could have won this election if he had done two things in the last 30
days:
1).
Stood up and said "No,
this bailout is wrong", which in the opinion of the Mountain Observer,
and
most Americans it surely was.
2).
Stood up and said "I was
wrong on the amnesty issue. We must, in fact, get serious about our
borders,
stop coddling those who are in a position to know they are hiring
illegals, and
require separation from our soil, with compassion as
appropriate, those
who have illegally violated our borders.
The
American people would have rushed
to his support, and properly so.
As
it was, the Senator chose the
Governor as his running mate; failing beforehand to recognize that he
had taken
on the real deal. We can thank him for that. Governor Sarah
Palin,
we true Conservatives love you, and Todd, and your family. You
are
all one of us. JES

Let me begin by saying,
that with Gov. Sarah Palin onboard, I believe it was the right thing to
do, as
an American, to support the McCain/Palin ticket against Baraka Hussein
Obama
and the Far Left hoards he has now brought into power. Obama's
election
has now truly enabled a Congress, already far to the left, to pursue
agendas
further inimical to the Constitution and the American nation. As
of this
date it is not yet clear that Obama even qualifies for office under the
Constitutional requirement that the President must be a natural born
American.
Hawaiian records have been sealed, and serious evidence reportedly
exists, yet
to be verified, that Baraka Hussein Obama was, in fact, born in Kenya.
The fact
that the question exists is testimony to the corruption of the process.
Whatever his failures, we did understand Sen. John McCain to be an

Perhaps
this coming weekend I can get started. For the moment I simply want to
say that
with regard to the civil war now breaking out into the open within the
GOP, I
am on the side of Gov. Sarah Palin and Joe the plumber. It appears that
virtual
Democrat John McCain has thrown Gov. Sarah Palin under the bus,
and he has
most obviously reverted overnight to his old ass kissing ways with
Democrats. Don't be surprised if he winds up with a post in an Obama
administration. I was right all along about John McCain, and it is a
disgusting
story. Much more will follow in these letters. JES

My friends, what has happened
here should not be a surprise to any of us. While post-modernist
analysis will
be that Conservatism has been defeated, it has not. By definition, it
can't
be. This old pre-modernist Conservative would observe that there
are
certain truths, and Truths, not subject to the manipulations of
relativist
tinkerers. The first is to recognize that anyone can think whatever
they will,
however, random musings are not to be confused with objective reality.
Throughout human history there has been a disposition to experiment
with the
preoccupation of self, aka, understood among observant Jews and
Christians as
original sin, or the mistake in the garden. An ugly side product, at
the least,
of the Enlightenment, has been the manifestation over time of
Secularism hiding
under the blankets of Science, or perhaps, vice versa. The
Enlightenment
possibilities of secularism consistent with science has been severely
corrupted, misrepresented and understood by few. So it is that
following a
century of experiment with Communism, Nazism, Fascism and Statism in
general, the
tattered and battered remnants of the western world are drawn again, as
flies
to a flame, to the siren song of neo-marxism, and denial of the rich
history of
our true roots. Aside from the general disaster implicit in this
manipulated
course of events, we are faced with the challenge of worldwide
IslamicFascism
with a history of its own, centuries old, and upon close inspection,
originally
arising from similar human error of preoccupation with self. A
collision
awaits, and the Western World is unprepared, having sabotaged itself
now with
decades of relativist deconstructionism and Secular junk.
So it is, my fellow Conservatives, we are in for a rough ride. So we
come back
to objective reality, not in the Ayn Rand sense, but in the true
Conservative
sense, that by definition, cannot not be denied. Rough ride though it
may be,
objective reality will prevail, for it is what it is. Socialism does
not work,
and free markets both economic and philosophical will prevail,
both on
Main Street and in the Academy. In our relationship with others,
successful
diplomacy is a function of the credible ability, and willingness, to
project
effective military power proportionate to our national security
interests.
These security interests, of necessity understood in an age of WMD
easily
transported and delivered, are inclusive of our founding national
premises, including
the Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be
self-evident, that
all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
certain
unalienable Rights, that among these are Life (from the beginning and
to the
end), Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness (understood in the context
of the
founding as private property)”, not irrelevant to the discussion.
Also relevant
to the discussion are these words to the Constitution: “We the
people of the
United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish
justice, insure
domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote (not
guarantee)
the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty (exclusive of
affirmative action) to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and
establish
this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Churchill, nor are you George Washington, who while understanding
limits, also
understood freedom under His will.
So,
my fellow Conservatives, buck up.
We start over, with the knowledge that we are on the right side of
objective

After 76 years the
inmates have now truly succeeded in taking over the asylum. There are
still
millions of Americans who cherish the representative republic, under
God, of the founding, however, my friends, it is left now in
tattered
fragments. Attended by his acolytes Rev. Jerremiah Wright, Bill Ayers,
etc, the
Messiah, and new president of the world Baraka Hussein Obama
ascends. Let
the train wreck begin. Much of the Western World celebrates the results
of this
American presidential election, oblivious to the fact of its actual
loss. It is
a loss to the West on a scale, and perhaps for reasons understood by
observant
Christians and Jews, comparable to the loss of Judea to the Babylonians
in 597
BC, and perhaps not an accident, now as then. I would not discount a
certain
analogy of what followed those many years ago; the matter is that
serious. For

Pondering weighty
matters this evening I stumbled upon a solution to an old problem that
has
bedeviled me for years. In order to easily remove a Brazil nut, whole
and
intact, from its shell, merely soak the shelled nuts in water for a
couple of
hours first. Of course, I am probably the last person on the planet to
have
figured this out. JES

11/01/08 By
all the usual
measures, the markets put in a better performance this past week.
It
seems, according to highly respected sources from within
the investment
community, that there was a linkage of this better performance to the
decision
of the Federal Reserve to lower the prime rate a half a point to
1%. And
the markets responded rationally to the facts of the
moment. However, accepting this analysis, for the sake of
discussion, I continue to be troubled by the long range implications of
all of
these recent bailout moves for the value of the currency. While
in the
very short range, the Fed move makes sense in support of the immediate
need to repair the credit/cash flow crunch, in the longer range I
believe
that this sort of interest rate manipulation will only do greater
damage in
terms of future inflation. It gets back to the original discussion
of the
wisdom of the $700/850 billion dollar bailout out in the first place,
to be
managed by the same set of government managers/politicians who created
the
problem in the first place. Printing money, creating credit out of thin
air, is
ultimately inflationary. Lowering interest rates to pump credit will
have the
same result. All of these high level juggling acts have in common
a
head-in-the-sand response to the fact of bankruptcy, public and
private, far
and wide as measured free market yardsticks. The day of
reckoning has
only been postponed, and likely made worse. JES
