06/30/09  It's all over folks for these "United" States of America.  With the US Senate on the edge of voting to endorse the House's passage of the Cap and Trade bill, these "United" States will have dug themselves a hole too deep to crawl out of.  Surrounded on all sides, economically, socially and culturally, Conservatives find themselves isolated and alone, left only to defend tiny islands of what remains of sanity.  And the Cap and Trade issues, for they are multiple, are only the beginning.  National economic, cultural and moral bankruptcy are at hand, and the only possible salvation from this mess is to just stand back, let it happen, and watch God pick up the pieces, if He will.  JES

06/15/09  Of course Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the “election”.  That’s how things work in that part of the world; Mir Hossein Mousavi offered up by the mullahs as a pretense of civility for the gullible.   It wouldn’t have mattered anyway who won the election.  Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei holds the cards, and from the perspective of the mullahs there is nothing to negotiate with Obama, Europe, Israel or anyone else.  The Caliphate cometh in their view.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the only western leader to understand this.  His rain dance of a speech yesterday was designed to educate Obama and friends on the futility of serious consideration of Palestinian statehood before the year 3001.  Meanwhile, North Korea is beating on the war drums.  George W. Bush’s description of Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the axis of evil was absolutely correct.  The Mountain Observer has said it many times; “Nice guys cause wars”.  Watch Obama touch off a big one.  Again, miscalculations start real wars.  “Appeasers believe that if you keep on throwing steaks to a tiger, the tiger will become a vegetarian.” -Heywood Brown.  And so it goes. 06/13/09  As the Obama socialist agenda continues to unfold, how long will it be before most Americans wake up?  The combination of public denial and Presidential narcissism is wrecking the country at warp speed.  Coupled with foreign policies made for children, these United (mostly) States, and the world, are headed for disaster.  And history books someday will be written about the collapse of the 4th estate.  JES

06/12/09  Serious and amusing at the same time.  The war over who's in charge of the New York State Senate; perhaps a precursor to possible mini-rebellions around the country.  With a looming deadline of 06/22 for the end of the session two downstate (city) Democrats join with the Republican caucus to seize control of the State Senate. 05/31/09  The American Bar Association has established that Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor is, indeed a member of La Raza (“the race”).  La Raza has been around awhile, promoting the separation of certain southwestern states, or parts thereof, from the United States either as an independent entity or to be absorbed wholly by Mexico.  These policies are cemented by association with Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan and consistent with the government policies of Mexico itself over a long period.  La Raza is totally racist in everything its spokesmen say, do and promote; nothing new about it.  As for Sonia Sotomayor, there is an old saying that if it walks like a duck, squawks like a duck and looks like a duck (2 out of 3 will do), it must be a duck.  I find it difficult to make the case that Sonia Sotomayor is not a racist.  For example; her words:  "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."  Not racist?; imagine a white guy saying something like that in a reversal of roles.  (Full disclosure:  Actually, as a Conservative, and in defense of the First Amendment, I believe statements of this sort are fully defensible as said by anybody.  The issue here is Liberal PC hypocrisy).  However, racism these days is supposed to be illegal.  Is it therefore consistent to put on the top bench an avowed racist? But of course; Obama the messiah says so, and so it will be.    JES

05/27/09 Perhaps North Korea would make it easy for us, were we under competent leadership, but then again, under competent leadership the situation as it is developing would not be happening at all.  They have just rejected the 1953 Armistice, and continue provocations.  As does Iran, the North Koreans are poking at Obama to see how, and at what point, he will react.   Just like kids testing their parents and the whole world is watching.   Perhaps their calculation is that he won’t react; so far he has only called on the United Nations to take charge.  All of this is very dangerous.  Miscalculations start real wars.  “Appeasers believe that if you keep on throwing steaks to a tiger, the tiger will become a vegetarian.” -Heywood Brown.  My suggestions on 05/25/09 were for a pro-active management of the situation.  Obama is allowing us to fall backward into a defensive posture that invites aggression against not only South Korea, but freedom loving peoples around the world by other despots of the same disposition.  This is the problem with appeasement.  I would prefer a free North, re-united with the South, and worldwide fear of the United States on the part of tyrants, despots and dictators otherwise inclined to feed their own people into shredders.  Not a job for the United Nations or kissy face Europeans.  So it goes.  JES

05/26/09  Either it is or it isn’t.  The California Supreme Court in a classic example of intellectual relativism, determines that it has been trumped by the voters on the issue of same sex marriage, while at the same time, gay couples married to date since the same Court ran amok last year are still “married”.  Makes sense, don’t you think?  Again, the flexibility of the logic of a “living constitution” carries on.  The country stands in legal quicksand: grab a rope.  JES

05/26/09  Colon Powell v. Dick Cheney & Rush Limbaugh.  Powell continues his lifelong habit of playing the race card, and he has it down to a fine art.  Anyone can register themselves as anything, which says nothing about who they really are.  Both Cheney and Limbaugh, neither a candidate for anything, have called Powell on Powell’s claim of Republican credentials, and they are both exactly correct.  Newt Gingrich, acting the politician as he runs for President in 2012, is double dealing again, where, in the northeast, such dissembling works especially well, shades of Arlen Specter.  You have to watch these guys every minute, and remember these matters later, not easy for many voters of only occasional interest.  No wonder so many folks hate politicians and politics.  JES

05/26/09  It appears that Obama the magnificent is about to do exactly what we expected.  Reportedly, he will nominate federal appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor (SUHN'-ya soh-toh-my-YOR'), a double minority and certified VICTIM by her own self description as a "Newyorkrican" (something less than American).  Her judicial record is that she has been reversed many times, which is to suggest activism of the worst Liberal sort.  Her own Liberal colleagues question her temperament, technical legal craftspersonship and her intellectual ability to stand up to the Conservative heavyweights on the high court bench.  Good.  Perhaps we should see in this an opportunity to get rough on the bench with all the “living constitution” crap.  A former law clerk comments, "She has an inflated opinion of herself, and is domineering during oral arguments, but her questions aren't penetrating and don't get to the heart of the issue."  Not a loss to us; just swapping out one for another.  JES

05/25/09  One of the gravest errors of the Bush 43 Administration was not to reverse the hugs and kisses policy of the OJ Billyboy Administration towards North Korea.  The correct solution to the problem of North Korea, especially now with right minded conservative leadership in the South, is to undertake a very surgical strike on the North Korean nuclear facilities.  Simply end the non-sense for once and forever.  Will the North attack the South in retaliation?  Perhaps, even likely.  However, that contingency needs to be planned for, and dealt with swiftly and robustly.  Fifty eight years later, we are still dealing with Truman’s equivocations on this matter, and look at the damage that has been done.  It all started with a sloppy speech by Dean Acheson.  The lesson here is that you never go to war unless you decide to win.  It’s called victory, after which the diplomats can be un-penned.  JES

05/17/09  As I pointed out on 05/14, General Raymond T Odierno gave Obama an ear full in reference to all of the backing and filling on Guantanamo detainee policy.  Now you will hear news reports that Obama's "growing in his job", or words to that effect.  There are Republicans in Congress who may actually believe that.  Obama is still just as far Left as his new Left wing critics.  However, this student of Saul Alinski was a good student, and has a well tuned survival instinct; knowing where to draw the line, for now.  Astute Conservatives will understand this, and continue to demand more of the same calculation from Obama for the sake of our national interest, however not to be fooled.  Continued shame of the American Left wing foreign policy record, whatever it takes to keep American national interests on the rails, is in order.  However, make no mistake about it; given the slightest opening, Obama will jump as far Left as he can.   This week we pray that Benjamin Netanyahu has similar success as the General.   JES

05/14/09  Obama on “torture” and releasing certain pictures and files.  It appears that General Raymond T Odierno has given Obama an ear-full on the consequences to our intelligence and military of taking such action.  The military is the one American institution capable of straightening this idiot out.  Crossing our military is one bridge too far for the Left to consider. Thank you General Odierno.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gets caught with her hand in the cookie jar, so-to-speak, regarding her own participation in reviewing certain CIA procedures early on. Together with the rest of the Left, her moral grandstanding is wearing thin with many serious folks more concerned about protecting American shores.  JES

05/14/09  Auto company bond holders get stiffed.  Where will these companies get future financing? The taxpayers?  Even some Democrats recognize a developing political problem here.  The UAW?  They just want to sell their new ill-gotten gains to split among the membership, or more likely among the bosses themselves, gains that are now no longer worth much  anyway.   The rats are now jumping ship, and the politicians will no longer be able to put humpty-dumpty back together again.  That leaves the companies physical assets.  At some point perhaps someone  is going to get a real deal.  The Chinese?  The scrap metal will be worth something, perhaps.  Bankruptcy, in the traditional legal sense, would have been so much healthier for everyone.  However, that was yesterday.  JES

05/12/09  About 180 years after the original Revolution in France, the tipping point finally came about in the late sixties. Academia fell before the hoards, and classical education finally collapsed under the weight of statist political indoctrination.  Many students seeking “success” learned the fine art of responding to instruction, not with critical thought, but with correct thought. The process has now snowballed through the decades, giving rise to utilitarian conformity and “correctness” in most all matters, with the ability to think withered on the vine.  Finally, in November 2008, American majorities in defense of freedom and independent thought collapsed in a heap before an onslaught of statism in a fascist format.  Some Americans are left who understand this, though not necessarily with desirable completeness.  Some Americans, who might come to understand, don’t yet.  As things now stand, we are at the mercy of their late education.  Meanwhile, the frog in the pot is getting warmer.   JES

04/29/09  Unlike our GOP Chairman, Michael Steele, who, incidentally, in my opinion is not doing such a hot job, I welcome the departure of Arlen Specter D-PA from the GOP.  It would really make my day if Susan Collins D in an elephant suit-ME and Olympia Snowe D in an elephant suit-ME did the same.  May the door slap them all on their asses as they depart.   The GOP was never in an actual position to block super-majority votes anyway, and any possible fig leaf of “bipartisanship” to be claimed Democrats has blessedly been removed. Time now for the GOP to rediscover its conservative base and get serious about doing its business for the American people. JES
